Something like Registry for example RE: microsoft joins the linux foundation - sparkz_alot - Nov-17-2016 It's not outside the realm of possibility that at some point they would offer a "pay for" enterprise version of linux, just like RHEL, SUSE, Ubuntu and others. If they do, it's also possible they might offer a "free" version, just like the aforementioned distros. Besides, if they felt that threatened, the Linux Foundation could have simply denied Microsoft's request to join. Sorry, don't see the big deal here.
