9$ CHIP computer
#21
Hehe thank you for complicating things! I remember now I came across Orange Pi a long while ago. I just wasn't in need of such thing at that time and quietly forgot about it. There is also a $12 WiFi version, with additional USB 2.0 port. https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product...38571.html

Other 2 links are pretty interesting too, particularly the one with projects. I expect a substantial rise in interesting projects once Chip makes its way to even more users.

I'd love to work on a generic community mesh network project.
It could be based on a home security project for starts.
One of the articles in the CHIP community list is on how to turn one of there into
a WiFi router.

I ordered two of these, think I'll need more.

I would like to participate in such a project as well. I'd prefer one that brings benefit to as many people as possible, rather than being an experiment. Such as environmental monitoring or security as you mentioned.

Unfortunately I won't be able to tinker with Chip for a while. In the meantime though I think Orange Pi will be my next stop. I will be happy to see "hardware Python" subforum here sometime in the future.

I have not until now that you familiarized me with it, thanks, it looks quite impressive at first glance.
If I came up with some idea it would be similar to this project. Although I would probably include smartphone, to provide the link to cloud, or however one wants to call it. But with a separate small hardware piece.
Light pollution is example of an issue that doesn't get much attention, compared to others that affect us more directly.

I asked Next Thing about where they will currently ship

Here's their reply:

Quote:To ensure the best possible shipping experience, we are only accepting new orders shipping to the following countries: Australia, Brazil, Russia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States.
We're currently working with DHL to add countries to our list and are in talks with major distributors across the globe.

Damn that unboxing video got me drooling even more. Until then I will do my best to get distraction from RPi, with Python included by chance.

That information on shipping countries was a post on their blog, I remember seeing it not too long ago. I sure hope it's true and their talks bring some changes to the list of countries =)
