Altair 8800

While I was at the American History Museum on Tuesday, I got to see an Altair 8800.

I got to see one in the box, take it out and use it.

That was a beautiful machine.

and a polymorphics (kit 8080)
   
This was my Polymorphics, with a Centronix 101 printer and a dual 8" floppy drive (90 kilobytes (not a mistake) per floppy), keyboard and monitor

I also had one that I made from whatever I could find in the dumpster.
The power supply was massive, designed to run the RF amplifier for a
plasma spectrometer, but also had a highly filtered 5v (all ttl logic) power supply, and
12v needed for some of the devices. The end result was a 150 lb 8080 computer.
