Dumbfounded

Here I am, watching videos on YouTube, and the image came to me of my Mom's Apple ][. Not even the first computer I programmed on. And I am just dumbfounded at how far things have gone.

The power we have in our pockets is amazing

Ja, tech has come a long way in a short time. With computers many magnitudes larger and heavier than ours with a minuscule fraction of the power, we sent people to the Moon and launched the Voyager satellites into deep space. Just thirty years ago, the internet was incipient and now it runs the developed world.

My friends and I used to play Rifts. It's a post-apocalyptic tabletop RPG. The core books were printed back in the 80s and there's a hilarious entry for a portable computer with 56MB of processing power! Of course, that was when 1MB of RAM cost thousands.

I remember Rifts. I was never into the Palladium system, but I knew people who were in college.

It's a bad system. Too much of a chaotic mess. Though, I had a friend who could not comprehend D&D rules but was a savant with Rifts. It was bizarre.

And I still remember my dad having one of these. Smile
When making a phone call on the go was a new phenomenon...
