I was never fooled by the marketing shtick of Microsoft reps calling Cortana "she," because, well, Cortana is a sexless AI and that's that. But I already miss being able to launch an application by just saying "Hey Cortana, open [application name]." Or to start a search with the browser still closed by saying, "Hey Cortana, python numpy tutorial" (even if I'd get damned Bing search results). Or to say "Hey Cortana, what's the weather?" and have the AI show me today's weather forecast for my location, even speaking a summary of the weather to me. Or even that silly thing Microsoft encourages people to try: "Hey Cortana, tell me something interesting." The trivia that the AI came up with was good for slow moments.

It's not like I'm crying in my Scotch, or anything, but it now bugs me when I have to use the mouse or keyboard for some things.

Thanks for reading.

I would be surprised if there is something Microsoft creates that there would not be an open sourced linux version of

Well, I didn't search for such alternative for Linux but I doubt that Microsoft will do anything innovative. They get their "ideas" from somewhere else. I can not think of any exception to this.

However, I see that @metulburr is giving you some alternative.
After all, even that Linux is used mostly as a working platform ( I am using it for any purpose ) not for fun, you may want to see this talk.

Thanks for the link. I'd have to fork this software from Raspberry Pi to amd64 and develop a way for it to do things like launch applications and initiate search engine searches, but it can be done. I don't have the knowledge or skill to do that right now, but there's always learning how.
