Install Mistake
#1
Forgive my ignorance, I am new to all this. When I installed the latest version Python 3.8.1 there was a link to change the default character limit, I think if I recall correctly, on the setup which I initiated but accidentally clicked no when it asked if I wanted to make this change.

1. Was that update vital or necessary?

2. If so, how can I re-initiate the process?

It is asking if you want to void the limit on the length of path values. Not vital, though if you have deeeeep directories you could run into problems.

If you have an issue, the following link will walk you through the process of disabling the 260 character path limit:

Disable Windows 260 limit
