Microsoft buying GitHub ... Mercy!

Microsoft officials have been talking to GitHub about possibly acquiring the company, according to a June 1 report in Business Insider.

The f???ing world ends Big Grin

Every company that MS eats is out of the business after few years. Should we all encrypt our git repo? I don't trust these guys.

They haven't destroyed LinkedIn yet... while I generally prefer companies be independent from MS, at this point I doubt it would be the end of the world.

Also having used Github at a couple of companies, I don't think it would be the worst thing if they disappeared. Something better would replace them. (Not Bitbucket - Atlassian products don't generally impress me.)

I just found out about it and went to post it here and saw its already been discussed. I am also sad and angry. I instantaneously lost all trust with them. Some people on reddit are moving their repos to gitlab already.

I dont even trust my current repos to stay there. So now im on the hunt to find where to move them to.

MS is dominating the PC OS market but they don't get much credit. How is that possible!
Now the most used developing platform is in their hands and I see the reaction of so many professionals and is not positive at all. I am not in the IT industry but it's close to me ( I love technologies ) and I feel the same way.

I have no strong strong opinion on this,it would not have felt better for me if eg Oracle,Amazon bought it.
Microsoft has at least showed lately that they care about open source,VS Code is Open Source.
The also hired Don Jayamanne, the maker of Python extension to make sure that Python work well in VS Code.
VS Code Goes All In on Python

Now do have i most of my stuff on BitBucket(which is okay, not good, not bad).
I use Windows as main OS,mostly because of all my 3D stuff is setup there.
For programming is mostly the same for me if use Linux or Windows, they are just tool that i can run Python on Wink

Hm! They were against open source for ages and now they support it? It's kind of hypocrisy. Linux is cancer? All the commercials against Open Office... You don't talk against the others in public on the TV if you feel threatened for your business. You don't spend a billion and a half dollars for such a purpose. I don't respect that. They are doing business in the shadows, they pay for newspapers articles to change the public attitude in order some contracts with the government institutions, schools, etc. to be more acceptable. They have contracts with the vendors to make laptops run only on Windows? Or at least to make you struggle if you want to install something else. I don't like anything about it. I don't trust that company.

They are not creative. All new things in their OS are taken from other OSs. They just consume. I have to say that MS can do one thing well - games.
