Python 2 is never going to be mainstream again. It's over. There will only be a fringe group of people to develop it because they like to play with old languages, like some people still write Pascal programs or because they can make a little money from it for some time by getting paid by businesses like yours that are still dependent on python 2 software.

The same story happens over and over again with successful software. For example people and businesses liked Windows XP very much. When Microsoft moved to new versions of Windows, people stayed with XP for years and refused to migrate. This cannot last forever. Software moves on very fast, and whatever programs you're using, you must be ready to adapt to changes.
