Practical Use of Personal DB

I love using software technology but want to do more than just 'play'. I'd like to engage in a database project but am short on ideas. Can anyone suggest practical uses for a personal database?

What interest do you have?
For example, a subject of late, stock market data.
Locations of oil wells in south Dakota, and related information.

Just about anything you can think of, that can be arranged by category, would probably have enough associated data to create a database about, for example database about reptiles found categorized by country.

Keep track of movies/books that you want to eventually get to?
To do list?

Databases are used in almost everything, so it would definitely be easier to have a project in mind when starting.
