The code is small no problem at all with this one char vars. The problem is with me. I don't understand what each of the assignments is doing.

No I have not, though it does look interesting. The only 'real' astronomy library I installed was
pyephem by Brandon Mills, and that was (and is) only to compare my Meuus results with a more modern system. I will say, this undertaking has sparked in interest in astronomy and cosmology that I did not have before, even though it only started as a way to better understand and learn Python.

That sounds like a great combination of interests =))
For me it was perhaps opposite... Astronomy, long ago, was also one of the reasons that got me into coding... and later astrodynamics :D I will be happy to know if you are working on some project, or planning to, as I get some ideas here and there also.
