how to make a keyword arg w/o a default value?

what i was trying to do was based on my misunderstanding of: every positional arg can be provided as a keyword arg based on the variable name it was defined with. i was trying to add name= in my topen() and document that with a copy of the open() documented example. that would have looked funny (not humorous)
