phpBB vis a vis MyBB
I wonder why the old forum was abandoned. How does your experience of the 2 forum softwares compare?
We would never of changed forums (which include the URL address, and forum software) if it had not been for the admin. He never was around, never let us change the forum, took forever to fix MySQL errors leading to down time on the site. A few of us made example forums and this one (MyBB) was voted the most for. MyBB and PhpBB are very similar. So much so that I cant really think of anything where one beats the other, or makes its mark. The main reason we chose MyBB is because it was forum software that was voted on and won. It wasnt so much what software we used, it was more important to break away and make our site accessible to our admins and mods for customization/fixing that was our true goal.
*Describe the environment in which it occurs.                                    *Describe the symptoms of your problem clearly.
*Describe the research you did to try and understand the problem.      *Describe the goal, not the step.
*Use meaningful, specific subject headers                                          *Write in clear, grammatical, correctly-spelled language
*Describe the problem's symptoms, not your guesses                         *Describe your problem's symptoms in chronological order
*Describe the diagnostic steps you took to try and pin down the problem yourself.
*Describe any possibly relevant recent changes in your computer or software configuration.
*Provide a way to reproduce the problem in a controlled environment.
I don't really notice the software. The key is that we have active people who can control the software. That makes this forum way better than the old one.
