He is asking a question in a help forum.

I don't understand why what I did was worse than everyone else (myself included, originally) ignored this thread.

When someone asks for help the correct thing to do (in my opinion) is help out where you can and if you have a location that could help them learn more about their code go ahead a suggest it.

Just being kind goes along way.

I was being kind by replying. I'm open to feedback here but I'm not convinced that what I did was worse than what literally everyone else did (including you), which was ignore the thread. I admit I could have been nicer, but as much as I "should" have done so, the OP should have Googled it and written a better question.
