Wow! I'm brand new here and already this place seems so much better than the python discord group. The generally thoughtful responses and an easily searchable archive is soooo nice in comparison.

I think discord is best because many official games like Fortnite, and Survivor are using the servers to communicate. It is very cheap, and it is free to start a server. It also contains no ads here so that way you are able to chat freely.

It's a bad behavior that OpenSource Projects using closed source platforms for support.
This support is not official, but there are other Projects, which are using Discord as primary communication platform.
A free open-source alternative is Revolt: https://revolt.chat/
Hopefully, they include Video soon.
Another big problem with discord are Bots. Discord has changed the API and the developer of discord.py stopped the development because this change made it complete incompatible to existing Bots. FOSS developers should not spend a second effort to do something with Discord because Discord can destroy the work in a very short time.
