Virtual reality isn't really all that difficult, all you need is two different cameras slightly apart from each other. So any decent 3d renderer/engine can handle it. The problem is mainly that with screens that close to your eyes, you absolutely have to have a high refresh rate, with almost no lag at all, or you'll make people sick.
Photo realistic graphics doesn't really make sense as a python problem, that's more of a modelling problem, which something like Blender is already very good at.
I don't know anything about 3d printing, so I can't help there.
Scientific engineering has scipy and numpy, which are very good.
