Why is anything going to the console? You never call
print()

Wait for command to complete or timeout, then return the returncode attribute. The arguments are the same as for the Popen constructor. Example: retcode = call(["ls", "-l"])
subprocess.call()
doesn't return the output of the command, it returns whatever the return code was (which is normally 0 if there's no error).
