I cannot find "XPath" (case-insensitive search) anywhere in the post, except the parts that ask about it. I am not able to see what the problem is.
If you need to attach a file and it won't let you, and the file is text, just use a scrolling-box environment and copy/paste it. Not a clean solution, but it would work.
