[SOLVED] requests returning HTTP 404 when I follow a link after I do a POST

Tried a URL such as:
http://user:password@host/? Btw, the site should have answered with a 403, not a 404.
Unless noted otherwise, code in my posts should be understood as "coding suggestions", and its use may require more neurones than the two necessary for Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V.
