appearance of IDLE 3.5.4 on Windows 10

the 3.5.4 shell on windows 10 looks quite low quality, ie. the text is quite blurry and the icon next to the window is blurred and distorted. any fixes for this?

yes, don't use IDLE it is not a very good choice. Choose another like VSCode or PyCharm.
In addition, since you appear to have just upgraded, why not go to version 3.7.0?
