#-*- coding: UTF-8 -*- tells Python how it should read your source file (in particular the string literals), *not* how it should handle the contents of files read/written by your code.
Unless noted otherwise, code in my posts should be understood as "coding suggestions", and its use may require more neurones than the two necessary for Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V.
