My setup for all OS is Atom with ptpython as REPL.

My opinion is the same as Snippsat, although (only because I know the editor v=better) I place PyCharm first,

To answer the original question, the issue with IDLE and entering " or ' marks. I had the same issue, but after installing an updated (but still older) version of Tcl (Tcl 8.5.18 for Mac) the issue was fixed.
