I hate transponder keys

I'm curious how you'd handle a keyless system.

Its not a keyless system, but a chipless system (well kind of). You still need a key to turn the ignition and open the doors.

Although with keyless systems, you can have a biometric car starter and door locks....if that is your thing.

i own an 800 dollar car. The good in that is no one wants to steal it.

I'm curious how you'd handle a keyless system. If the transponder is near the car, then the doors could always be opened, and the car could always be started and driven off, without an actual key present. Or would you just not attempt to "fix" that?

In newer cars, The auto key has a transmitter that sends a rotating encrypted code, and must be within 5 and 20 meters of the car. So very difficult to get the code right.

I just bought a new car. I only have one key. So I guess I am just going to tear out the chip on this one key again and epoxy it or something to the ignition again. I went to Wal-Mart to key replacement non chip keys and they said they cannot do that. It only takes a little bit of fanessing to tell them that it is only for unlocking the car If I lock the keys in the car, or strap one under the car, etc. Then they finally made them for me. Lol if they only knew I do plan on using them in the ignition soon..

a place i used to work at used a transponder system for the 3 main entry doors, the operations room, computer room, network room, and the HVAC room. we could program the working distance for every key:door pairing. we made most entry doors work at about 10 feet for most keys. we made the CEO's key work all the way out to the max, about 25 feet while his wife's key had to be right next to the door. i think the range programming was time based and the max range depended on power, antenna, and maybe also battery.
