i sometimes feel like this is a dictatorship disguised as a democracy. If not, then people sure as hell try to make it. I often worry that America will produce the next Hitler/Stalin of the next world war.

I will be not surprised. Since ww2 it is in war almost unceasing. But the war is a good business. You can sell weapons, fuel, and other stuff on both sides.

98% of congress is crooked and would vote either direction based on bribes....based on ex-lobbyists.

stop giving money to the people responsible for this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentrat...ted_States

its the media companies, the isps are just positioning themselves to make more from them and getting more cozy with them.

stop going to movies, stop buying television, stop voting 2-party, its going to stay corrupt. and nothing will change without election reform. ever. nothing will ever change without election reform.

but until that happens, stop funding the lobbyists... every time you buy stuff from them, you give them money to campaign against everything you want.

people pay good money to lose political power, because they dont really pay attention to who theyre doing business with-- only what theyre buying. when the money you spend goes to lobbying against you, youre participating in your own political impotence. no offense, but if people really want change, this needs to be seriously reconsidered.

I think a term limit for congressman would pull them out before they get corrupt. As if they are not corrupted when they go in, they are by the time they leave. Maybe a 4 year limit would pull them out before they get corrupted and start accepting lobbyist proposals.

Although I would love to see gerrymandering gone.

Realy? I think that if they are at such a step in politics, to run for a seat in the Congress, they are preparing themselves to be corrupted if they are not already. There are no casual people there. Among the thieves, there is no place for honored man. They will eat him/her for a dinner just to avoid the possibility to issue them.

i think the problem (as wavic seems to agree, not to put words in anyones mouth) is that the only things lobbyists can legally bribe politicians with is campaign money (prior to running) and hiring them in cushy do-nothing positions (after they leave.)

a four-year limit might help-- though i suspect the problem got a lot worse when we *relaxed* the limits on campaign contributions between the 60s and 90s. its a lobbyist free for all, its paid-for political influence. if we dont address that corruption directly, its kind of absurd. any step in the right direction is nice i guess, but it still needs to fix the problem in practical terms that actually work.

Nothing works. In European countries, the politicians are elected once per four or five years. They are corrupted too. The difference is if they want to be in power in the next four or five years, they have to listen to the people sometimes. And again it depends on the system. In any country, there are differences which change the picture enough.

There is a major problem here. Most of the people are thinking that if they go voting once per few years they have done their part of their obligations as citizens. And because they have participated everything should be alright from now on. After that they are passive. They are watching on the TV all the parody and swear until the next time. And everything repeats itself.
You can't get a different result doing the same thing over and over. We are programmers and know that pretty well.
