You could perhaps choose one of Wikipedia's list of algorithms and implement one of them in Python.

What are you interested in? If this is homework, what are the constraints? If you just ask random people on the Internet, you'll get all manner of suggestions, some of which may not be appropriate. Aren't you better off asking your teacher?
