trying to write a dictionary in a csv file

What argument does csv.DictWriter.writerows() expect? What is it's return value?

csvwriter.writerows(csvwriter.writerows(straightdictlist))

Other than the import statement import json

The only part of the example that I showed above that actually saves the dictionary to json file is:

    with open(filename, 'w') as jfile:
        json.dump(straightlist, jfile)

The part that reads it back into a dictionary is:

    with open(filename) as jfile:
        newdict = json.load(jfile)

It's as simple as that.

well you said that it takes a list of dictionaries, so it would be a list with dictionaries inside(ex: list = [ {'rank':a , 'values':b}, {'rank':c, 'values':d}, {'rank':e, 'values':f} ], but i have no idea what it returns???

One line, two BIG hints and you still haven't spotted the error. You are not passing a list of dictionaries. Look closely at the one line of code I posted before you refute.

And Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 is a straight. I think it even has a special name, wheel or bicycle or something like that, and it is the only time the Ace is treated as a 1 in poker.
