5D glass disc capable of storing 360 TB for eons

Hello,

I just posted this as part of another thread, but expect others would be interedted.
apparently at the University of Southampton in the UK they have figured out how
to store (or at least the science for it) 360 terabytes on a small glass disc. The data
is expected to outlive the human race.

As an aside the "Holy Bible" is a very small document by todays standards (mere megabytes). The "Holy Bible" is really just a PR thing. "Wikipedia" could have been more appropriate. Which of the two do we want aliens to find about us?
Unless noted otherwise, code in my posts should be understood as "coding suggestions", and its use may require more neurones than the two necessary for Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V.

In the late sixties, before I was strictly software, I worked for Honeywell Information
Systems Inc. (same company that makes thermostats) in the Computer Engineering
Group. Our group was in the process of building a disk 'drum'. The device was about
3 feet in diameter and 7 feet tall. I don't recall the capacity, but it would be considered
pitifully small by today's standards.

On another subject, here's a fun read: https://archive.org/download/bitsavers_c...196211.pdf

Now all we need is data that would be relevant for that long  Wink
If it ain't broke, I just haven't gotten to it yet.
