Based on your rant post I decided to post back here since it was about fees for service
When I think about requiring paid service for help I think about the 8 year olds that are trying to learn python that we have helped in the past. Where do these kids go? How will they pay? Shouldn't they have the right to learn python for free?
Yes more of us might stay if we were getting paid but someone always replaces. Those we taught 5 years ago are now teaching others, etc. They are also fresh and remembers what it is like to be new so can relate better. If python is popular this will naturally occur. New people come and more and more people come.
Everything doesn't always have to be about money. Python is open source and free to download and use and hence this forum for python will be free. This forum has always aimed at free education. And requiring pay for service is not aligned with our goal
This forum and its community has been around since 2006 ish. The community members change over the years, the domain has changed over the years, but the goal has always been the same. I think if we have been here for 15 years providing free service, we can be here for another 15.
When I think of someone having a rant about us not charging people the first thing in my mind is you are from some other python forum whom is charging people for service and is not happy there is competition that provides free support.
I wouldn't be apart of a community that only sees my question as income. I would of never learned python if that were the case of every forum. I liked how this forum answered my questions so I eventually became a moderator to help. Then became an admin to ensure the forum would exist and remain. I am not an engineer. I am father of 4. I would like to think my kids could ask questions on here from people who love python not think of them ask their paycheck.
