I doubt Python is the bottleneck. I also doubt Python is the solution.

For faster large file downloads (1GB+):

1. **Download Managers** – Use **IDM** (Windows) or **aria2** (aria2c -x 16 "URL", Linux).
2. **wget or curl** – Resume support:
`bash
wget -c "URL"
curl -O -C - "URL"
`
3. **rsync (for remote servers)** – Efficient transfer:
`bash
rsync --progress -avz user@server:/file .
`
4. **Cloud Sync** – Use rclone, gdown, or OneDrive/Dropbox apps.
5. **Torrents** – If available, use **qBittorrent**.

As mention download managers like aria2 can help for faster download of lagere file.
Writing the same way Python can use a asynchronous way that allows to download multiple parts of the file concurrently.
Can use aiohttp for this task.
import aiohttp
import asyncio
import time

async def download_file(url, output_path):
    async with aiohttp.ClientSession() as session:
        async with session.get(url) as response:
            with open(output_path, "wb") as f:
                while True:
                    chunk = await response.content.read(32768)
                    if not chunk:
                        break
                    f.write(chunk)

if __name__ == '__main__':
    start = time.time()
    url = "https://link.testfile.org/500MB"
    output_path = "file_500.zip"
    asyncio.run(download_file(url, output_path))
    stop = time.time()
    print(f'{stop - start:.2f}')
A example to use aria2 with Python then subprocess is used for task like this.
import subprocess
import time

url = "https://link.testfile.org/500MB"
output_path = "largefile.zip"
# Using aria2 for faster downloads
start = time.time()
subprocess.run(["aria2c", "-x", "10", "-s", "16", "-o", output_path, url])
stop = time.time()
print(f'{stop - start:.2f}')
