Ooh, when you start talking theories of reference, you start getting into deep philosophical weeds.

and then the meaning being referenced is whatever the usage intends.

New England has a lot of funny expressions, like:

Ive heard of them before being close.

I live in the ghetto. When i am waiting with my kids out for the bus other parents kids phrase is "There be my bus". And some of the stuff i read on facebook is hard to even decipher. Run on sentences and abbreviations mixed together, i cant even read it anymore.

some people don't put periods at the end of their sentences some people don't type upper case (though my android phone does some of that for me) letters sum peple dont evun spel rite o wut can we do

what't proper in a language is what is generally accepted, at least today.
If it's put in the Oxford dictionary, I guess it makes the grade!

seen one of those on TV (ancient video tech). i wonder how their phones are doing it. or just how their computers are doing it. i remember seeing something where they had a "keyboard" doing written strokes and the computer detecting the character that way.

a google search reveals that Chinese has multiple methods to choose from, including a stroke based method and one called "pinyin" that uses a QWERTY keyboard to "spell" characters. i think the next step is to look on youtube and see which methods people there are actually choosing.

Differences in language can be quite humorous when an outsider is first exposed to them. It happened to me. I was working a gig (I'm the outsider), in the UK midlands area, having never been there before, i was surprised when I went to a pub with some of the guys from my job after work the first evening. My first surprise was when I bought a round of beer and the barkeep said to me that will be 5 quid. I looked through my money, not finding any quid, only pounds, and had to ask what a quid was, the others with me got a laugh. A bit later, one the guys said 'I have to leave, I'm getting pissed'. Since we were all laughing and having a good time, i couldn't figure out why he was getting pissed.

they are using voice "texting". they speak short clips into the phone and it is sent to the other phone.
