Opening an empty Jupyter notebook in VSCODE
#1
Hi, I'm new to this forum.

I installed VSCODE 1.65.1 (macOS BigSur) with python and Jupyter. I'm able to drag and drop an .ipynb file into the editor area. So far so good.
A side question: everytime I do so I have to choose the kernel environment. How can I make the once chosen kernel/Python environment permanent for all notebooks?

How do I open an empty notebook in the VSCODE GUI from the Jupyter extension?

Thanks for helping.

Christoph

  1. Open VSCode
  2. On left panel, click extensions icon (four squares with one offset from group)
  3. Click three dot icon right of extension menu (...)
  4. Check that Jupyter is present (Views->Jupyter). if so continue at step 5, otherwise:
    • In search box type 'Jup'
    • Right click on "Jupyter notebook support, interactive" icon, select install
  5. Create a new '.ipynb' file in your workspace -- or -- from command line (ctrl+Shift+P) type Jupyter:Create New Blank Notebook'

Jupyter notebook Support is already installed and I'm able to open .ipynb files (File menu).
But what do you mean by "5.Create a new '.ipynb' file in your workspace "?

The CMD-SHIFT-P portion works.
