i can tell on friday/saturday nights the lag increases. Or when kids are out of school (snowday). Sometimes i cant stand being on the internet during such times. Loading a webpage is usually a fraction of a second, but during those times, it can take 10-15 seconds to load for each mouse click...which is annoying.

The browser can slow it down as well.
The new firefox (57.0.2) is very fast

Even slow, it still beats Archie and Gopher.

Sorry, but I'm still waiting for prices to drop and magical technology to emerge that was promised when they deregulated the phone industry. Seems to be the same argument in this case regarding the internet. Since it was the government (ie our tax dollars) that got the internet going, it should be free, since we've already paid for it. Forgive me if I don't trust big business and congress to act on behalf of the public, since they are basically one and the same now. I think the "free and open exchange of ideas" was dealt a heavy blow with this ruling. Alternative viewpoints are a requirement of a democracy, now if the major ISP's don't like what you are saying, consider yourself throttled or even blocked. Perhaps one of the outcomes of this ruling will be the increased use of the dark net?
If it ain't broke, I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Ok, I was part of one of these phone companies (one of the first 100 employees) of what is now Century-Link,
started out as Litel, then LCI-International, then QWest, now Century-Link. LCI was a competitor with MCI.

Before MCI, a 3 minute phone call to my grandmother who lived about 50 miles from us cost about $4.00.
Today, with the right service that call, or even to your Grandmother on the other side of the world, that call
can last all day for a fixed monthly rate of less than $20.

De-regulation allowed this!

Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. After a business reaches a certain size, it gets
bought out by the leaches, who's only interest is to themselves and the stockholders,
they will dismantle what was once a great business, until it becomes something ugly.
During this final phase, prices again rise, sometimes (as in the pharmaceutical industry) with
such greed that it is absolutely shameful.

I've been around long enough see what eventually happens. (hint: I remember my dad
introducing me to veterans of the Civil War when I was a kid. There weren't a lot remaining,
but there were a few left)

I would love to see this happen with Microsoft. But now i think i have a new enemy, all ISP's.

It seems like we will have to build our own network. Somehow. Is not too much to say that I can't stand the monopoly, which allows the big company to literally twist people's hands. It's another form of dictatorship -  stay calm or we stop the water ( for example ) and you are like walking dead. But they say that all is going better  Big Grin
